IN PERM AND ST. PETERSBURG
Founded in 1931 on the basis of the Salt Laboratory of the USSR Academy of Sciences, the Institute carried out a large complex of research works on the study of geology, hydrogeology, geomechanics of salt and potash deposits: in Belarus, Ukraine, the Urals, Siberia and the republics of Central Asia, developed technologies for underground highly mechanized extraction of potash ores, underground leaching of potash and salt deposits.
The history of the institute’s formation is inextricably linked with the development of the potash industry in the country and the world.
The development of domestic potash reserves in Russia began in the 20s of the XX century. The first exploration party near the city of Solikamsk in 1927, after a year and a half of work, established that the deposits of potassium salt here are huge, and they are closer to the surface of the earth than in Germany and France.
